SOON AVAILABLE: The Dark Side of the Kalahari available as ipad app from September:
“The addition of an iPad application to Hannes’ new book “The Dark Side of the Kalahari” makes this artwork even more special.
Modern technologies add extra dimensions which are not possible in print. They give you deeper insight in the story behind the story and take you behind the scenes of the creation of the book.
The crispness of the iPad display makes the color and detail of the photos stand out magnificently.
Short videos made by professional wildlife filmmaker Noa Köfler are setting a number of photos alive by giving a glimpse into what happened before or after the decisive moment. Also a number of short films by Noa give you a glimpse behind the camera and lift a corner of the veil of a photographer’s life in the Kalahari. As the life partner of Hannes, Noa has an intimate insight which only closeness can produce.
The application also provides more detailed information about each photo in a simple to access and clear way. Exposure, lens use, location, etc are presented in an easy overview when requested and, when an internet connection is available to the iPad, the location where the photos were made can be shown on a map. Where available extra information about the scene’s subject can be consulted on wikipedia.
The application also presents another two hundred unpublished photos taken during the Dark Side project as well as several slide shows.
Two points which really touched me are the introduction text read aloud by it’s writer Ian McCallum as well as the video short showing a day in the life of Hannes in the Kalahari. This last video gave me goose bumps.”
Good Luck with this first!
